A small drabble for an interaction between Blackbyrd and :iconcalamitychemist: 's Carmori, Aka "Greybird" fav.me/d399kis
Blackbyrd (Raven Byrd if female, Crowe Byrd if male) is a customizable, role-playing OC for fans of Greybird zikka.deviantart.com/gallery/3… ...this drabble and all its elements, including Blackbyrd )aka "young byrd") has NO direct connection with "Greybird"'s main storyline.

The young Byrd sighed in frustration as they paced anxiously across the stage, now empty, as their fellow student actors had left having revieved their parts, confident on their line studies...

In the student theatrical production of Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream," the young Byrd, who didn't speak much and was more interested in practicing their violin and piano, or perhaps reading Edgar Allen Poe's dark poems, hadn't really given much thought to actually being cast in a role. In fact, the ONLY reason they'd auditioned was because the theater managers had been kind enough as to have given them a place to stay amongst the theater's OTHER orphaned students at all! But now, here they were, cast in the role of Bottom the weaver, a very OUTGOING personality who looked at himself more importantly than others, a character who's personality was WAY out of the Young Byrd's league, and they were SLIGHTLY stuggling to learn his lines...

Of course, they were only SLIGHTLY struggling because they WERE, on the side, interested in a LITTLE of Shakespeare...and by LITTLE, they only took interest in TWO plays...Romeo and Juliet they'd had to study for a class, and then when they discovered Hamlet, they'd fallen in love with the tragic, haunted prince...but aside from that...this role was still a HUGE reach for them...

Where Bottom LOVED to talk and show off, Young Byrd liked staying in the back, keeping in the shadows...perhaps the director cast them in this role either to get them to socialize or step out of the comfort space...or to TORMENT them?

"I-I have with eno-no, WIT-WIT-!! Wit? With? With WHAT? ARGH!" Byrd huffed in exasperation...they'd been doing so WELL up to this point too...! Of course, the thought of the student playing Titania swearing her love to them...even IF acting, even IF Titania WAS in a TRANCE, made them BLUSH...

Byrd shook their head, determined not to give up, and tried again...

"I have WIT to-no, WIT ENOUGH to get out of this wood...I have enough to serve my own-er, MINE own term..."

"OUT OF THIS WOOD...DO NOT DESIRE TO GO..."

Byrd's eyes widened as their head whipped around, searching for the owner of the voice who had just stated that line...who was there?!

"Wh-WHO'S THERE-?!"

"Ah-ah-AH-! Do NOT Fall out of character NOW..."

The voice was SHARP...DARK..and yet strangely...charming? And it was obvious, seeing as there was NO ONE ELSE AROUND, that the voice was directed towards THEM...

Before Byrd could ask again 'Who are you?' or 'Where are you?', they suddenly saw HIM...there...standing in the shadows, leaned up TOO comfortably against the backstage wall...his black eyes glowed like two blue, peircing stars against the night sky behind his...BIRD MASK...he was grinning slyly, with a smug yet charming sense of knowledge as he next spoke...

"Thou shalt remain here,
Whether thou wilt or no,
I'll give thee fairies to attend on thee,
and they shall fetch thee jewels from from the deep,
And sing while on pressed flowers dost sleep,
and I will purge thy mortal grossness so,
That thou like an airy spirit go..."

While he had been speaking, he'd stepped forward toward them with every word...his slightly messy brown hair had seemed to float about him. his whole being glowing in the darkness...and Byrd now found themselves backed against a wall, trembling, as he was now standing directly in front of them, gazing down at them...Byrd gulped...

Suddenly, his hand reached forward-! Byrd clenched their eyes shut as they felt his hand, COLD AS ICE, rest against their cheek...slowly, they opened their eyes, holding back a gasp, seeing his face SO CLOSE to theirs, the beak of his mask inches from their face...

He seemed to be looking directly in their eyes, no longer smug but..curious...as if searching for soemthing...finally, after what seemed like eternity, he spoke...

"There's something in your soul...
Madness in great ones must NOT UNWATCHED GO..."

"...U-Um..." Byrd found their voices squeaking, "I-isn't that...H-Hamlet? This...this is Mid-summer...Night's..."

They were cut off however by the sudden look of surprise that suddenly crossed his face...

Not even a split second later, he stood his full height, threw back his head and LAUGHED...a cackling, bird-like SHRIEK that caused Byrd to flinch, pinning THEMSELVES against the wall, hoping to melt into it and disapear...

Fortunately, the bird-like-spectre, still cackling and laughing his head-er-MASK off..if he COULD anyhow...disapeared, flying into the shadows, feathers raining down from where he flew as his cackle still echoed amongst the walls...

Byrd, still in shock, the man's voice...and his LAUGHTER, still echoing in their heads, appropriately fainted.
